The short story Marine Story is written by A. S. Byatt in 2013. It is a tale about the young Harold, who has a really significant relation to the nature especially to the ocean. He falls into love together with the beautiful woman Laura, but he will not reveal his love to her. Laura is definitely leaving to study abroad and Harold has a hard time with out her, thus he writes her a love letter in a bottle of wine message, but the bottle will not get to the intended destination without being damaged by the sea. In this composition I will concentrate on the writer's use of fictional quotations, and which connection it has to the key character. Furthermore I will focus on the part of the mother nature in the short story in addition to a characterization of the main figure. The story mainly takes place around Harold's home in Filey, and also at a pub local where he socializes with Laura and her friends. Area of the story takes place at Oxford where Harold studies. The storyplot is created from a third-person narrator, who is limited omniscient, meaning the narrator can only find into the thoughts of the key character. The effect of the account depends on which point of view is definitely chosen, and we only begin to see the story by Harold's standpoint, which makes Laura's decision about leaving seem cruel. The perception of the story is influenced by a lot of adjectives and imagery. The nature is for instance referred to with many details like a doing some fishing town having a perfect attract of pale golden seaside, crumbling grassy cliffs plus the unique Filey Brigg (page 1, range 3-4).
